Some of the
documents available in the form of entries in baptismal registers in the Church
of Santa Rosa, Arima, are interesting for some of the associations that they
suggest, and the ways that they confirm testimonies from oral sources. Some of
these documents are provided below, with a few brief comments to illustrate
their significance.
This is an entry, one of the latest to be found in the registers, of a child born to Clara Calderon and Jose Pilar. Clara sometimes appears as Clarisse. Pilar sometimes appears as Pilal (as "r" was frequently pronounced as an "l" and transcribed as such).
This is the entry for the baptism of Julie Calderon. Her parents were also Jose Pilar and Clara Calderon. Note the godparents and the network of relations it suggests internal to the community and partly responsible for its cohesion: one Lopez and one Hernandez submitting to the obligation of godparenting, also implying their relatively close bonds with the parents.
This document is interesting for showing one of numerous links between the Hernandez and Calderon lineages.
This document is also interesting for showing the connections between the Campo and Hernandez lineages. The godparent to this Campo child is the same Nicolasa Calderon (married Hernandez) that we saw on previous pages.
